Glasgow Competition - November 2005

Highlights of 2007

This year saw TTA Bristol's first two Blackbelts! Hope Allen and Jack Houghton (aged 11 and 12) passed their Blackbelt grading under Grandmaster Loh in September to achieve junior Blackbelt grade (1st Poom). This was a significant achievement not only for Hope and Jack but also for the club. (Well done!)

Other highlights were...

...the opportunity for Bristol members to train under Grandmaster Loh for an intensive weekend of sparring in St Austell, Cornwall

...the Nottingham Summer School - where Bristol instructor Mr Beresford had the opportunity to train under two Taekwondo Grandmasters - Grandmaster Loh, 8th Dan and Grandmaster Hwang In-Sik, 8th Dan, from Korea (Chairman of the Education committee of the Kukkiwon (Taekwondo headquarters in Seol)).

Team Results from October 2007:

Hope Allen - Gold (sparring)

Shannon Pullman - Silver (sparring), Silver (red belt patterns)

Jack Houghton - Silver (sparring)

Peter Houghton - Silver (sparring)

Competition Results - October 2006

This year saw an even stronger performance from the Bristol team,
returning to Glasgow for their second National Competition.

Highlights were two gold medals in the children's sparring competition,
and a confident performance in some of the qualifying rounds (three 7-0 victories in
the opening stages of the competition!) resulting in a good overall medal tally.

With more competitors overall in the children's competition, it made for an exciting
day, with some of the weight divisions very closely contested!

Full Team Results:

Hope Allen - Gold (sparring)

Jozef Clark - Gold (sparring)

Marcus Smith - Silver (sparring)

Corey Arnel - Bronze (sparring)

Jack Houghton - Bronze (sparring), Bronze (red belt patterns)

Peter Beresford - Bronze (sparring)

TTA England fly out to California

Thanks to everyone who bought lottery tickets to support the TTA England
team, who fly out to California this week for the World Championships.

TTA Bristol would like to wish the team the very best of luck for the tournament.

Among the team is our very own Emma Travis, former TTA Bristol member!
Emma is now based in Nottingham and has been training hard with rest of the team.
She was awarded her blackbelt by Grandmaster Loh at the grading in April.
We will see Emma back in Bristol during the summer holidays.>

Watch this space for competition results!

Taekwondo Demonstration - May 2006

Members of the club at all levels took part in a taekwondo demonstration
at the Oldbury Court School Spring Fair. This was a great opportunity for us
to show how far we have come in the three years since the club began.

See for yourself on the Photos page!

Cornwall Sparring Course - April 2006

This year 6 of our members attended the weekend sparring course
with Grandmaster Loh held in Fowey, Cornwall. The course covered basic
and advanced stretching and kicking techniques and lots of free sparring!
There was also a competition which included high jump front kick, high
flying side kick and power breaking categories. Photographs can be found
on the TTA Cornwall and TTA Nottingham websites (go to Links page).
Our junior members showed great promise in the high flying side kick category!

'The Cornwall sparring Course was a great experience.
I loved Sunday afternoon, we had a mini competition.'
Hope Allen, age 10 yrs

Grandmaster Park Seminar, 5th March 2006

On 5th March the TTA held a seminar with Grandmaster Park Hae Man, 10th Dan,
who was visiting Europe and the UK from Korea. This was a rare opportunity to
train under a true taekwondo legend. In the formation of the Republic of Korea,
President Park Chung Hee decreed that the top martial artist from each martial art
would be selected to be his bodyguard. Grandmaster Park was selected to represent
taekwondo. Altogether 6 martial arts were represented. Grandmaster Park served the
full term of the presidency career. He was also credited with forming the Taegeuk poomse (patterns).
He is now a member of the high Dan examination committee in the Kukkiwon
(the headquarters of the World Taekwondo Federation in Korea).

Glasgow Competition - November 2005

Congratulations to TTA Bristol's first competition team, who won a total of 10 medals
from the 23rd National TTA Championships in Glasgow.

Despite being one of the newer clubs in the organisation,
we came an impressive 6th place in the overall team results,
out of 25 teams competing from England, Scotland and Ireland!

Thanks to everyone who came for making the weekend a success.
The event was a great experience for all competitors and spectators, and hopefully
has given everyone an idea of what they are working towards.

If we continue to train hard we can look forward to further successes in the future.
